Student Hostel on Campus
Student hostel is located in central Reykjavik on campus at the University of Iceland. Open to everyone during the summer months!
Unfortunately due to Covid-19 we are unable to open the hostel this summer. We look forward to opening again in June 2021.
The hostel is within a short walking distance from downtown Reykjavik and it‘s shopping street Laugavegur as well as the main landmarks in Reykjavik, i.e. Hallgrimskirkja, Harpa and the Pearl (Perlan). Student hostel is on campus at the University of Iceland, with various service such as the University Bookstore, Bookstore Café, Hama (canteen) and the Student Cellar (bar).
The hostel has 43 twin rooms, with city or garden views. We offer sleeping bag accommodation and made up beds. All rooms have shared bathroom and kitchen facilities.
Student hostel offers free parking for guests and complimentary WiFi access in public areas. The hotel is a non smoking property.
Please note that there will be construction going on in our building's proximity. Disruptions may be expected. We thank you for your understanding.
The building is called "Gamli Garður" (e. old garden) and is the oldest building on campus, first opened as a dormitory in 1934. During the Second World War the house was occupied by the British army. The building was completely renovated in 2013 - 2014 with the primary emphasis to highlight the history of the house. Today it occupies student housing from late August until end of May each year, but during summer it's student hostel.
